Intro
A girl is unhappy from an oracle’s
prophecy of desire and insecurities.
One day, on her path to search for
happiness she is faced with the
problem foretold by the oracle. In
this process, she collects each
element she found on her path to
create a kaleidoscope of her own.

Tell us about yourself.
- I create installations, design small quantity batch productions,
and work on other projects based on handicrafts.

Is there a reason you chose ‘CERAMIC’ as your tool of imagination?
- Ceramic is a medium that has many limitations. It is difficult to
handle and cannot be cheated. I liked the genuineness of having to examine it everyday.

Some projects with an extraordinary consciousness stand out. What objects are you
usually inspired by?

- Lately I have been interested in medieval architecture, amrita paintings, Dante’s
Divine Comedy, Paul Thomas Anderson’s films, and the culture, food, and history of
the Peranakan (a Chinese-Malay mixed race and culture).

Is there anything you particularly intended to do in this project?
- I focused on lessening the disparity between the materials, and tried to emphasize
the specific features and virtues of each material in harmonizing metal and ceramics.

Is there a common theme in your work?
- Overall, my work is based on the narrative of desire, anxiety,
and healing. Desire and anxiety lies at the essence of human nature.
Karma is and essential part of nature. After all, life is a process
of liberation from karma, sublimation from life to death, and return
from having to nothingness.

It seems a variety of images overlap to create a new image.
- Ever since I was young, I was obsessed with collecting a variety of
images. I would cut out pages from storybooks and encyclopedias that
I haven’t even read. I think such series of processes shaped who I am today.

It is fascinating how paradoxical images do not collide with each other, but create harmony.
- Usually as I collect data by searching books or the Internet, I am naturally
able to distinguish between realities and the direction I am interested in,
and those that I am not. In such process, a variety of information based on
my personal taste accumulates. I believe this is why I am able to create
a new sense of harmony rather than disparity.

Lee
Yunhee

Lee yun hee creates new, unexpected images and
stories by overlapping her imagination of different
images. The culmination of her project is full of
juxtapositions and improbabilities, yet it comes
together as one beautiful object through her elaborate
sense of detail. The layers of contradictory images
depict our fundamental human desires and insecurities,
and within such realm Lee strangely draws out
a harmony that symbolizes healing.
